Michalis Trachalios was born in Chortiatis. He studied composition in the
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from where he graduated with an outstanding
academic record. At the same time, he was studying Conducting with Michalis
Economou and Athanasia Kyriakidou. Later, he continued his studies in Orchestral
Conducting on a graduate level at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee which he
entered with full scholarship and assistantship. While a student at UWM, he worked
as an Orchestral Office Manager and Assistant Conductor for the UWM Symphony
Orchestra. He also won the Gerondelis Foundation Scholarship for outstanding
academic achievement.
He is the founder, artistic director and conductor of JoveNata Ensemble.
JoveNata is a chamber orchestra formed by young musicians who have already gained
wide appreciation from the audience of Thessaloniki and Greece. Michalis is
responsible for the orchestral activities of the Municipal Conservatoire of Pylaia
Chortiatis. Maestro Trachalios collaborates also with Thessaloniki’s Concert Hall
Organization as the conductor of Megaro Youth Symphony Orchestra (MOYSA). He
has performed with Thessaloniki City Symphony Orchestra, Athens City Symphony
Orchestra, UWM Symphony Orchestra, MDW Orchestra, MOYSA, Camerata Junior,
Big Band of Northern Greece, Oreias and Cascais Chamber Orchestra, and he has
collaborated with: Igor Gruppman, Thomas Sanderling, Zuill Baily, Philippe Forget,
John Thomas Dodson, Dimitar Ivanov, Marcin Markowich, Mixed Choir of
Thessaloniki and Voci Contra Tempo.
Michalis Trachalios has been an active participant in multiple Master Classes
in Greece and abroad, such as the National Master Class for Orchestral Conducting in
Athens, Malta International Conducting Master Class and Competition, and Cascais
and Oreias Master class and Competition where he won the third prize.
